The US National Guard Fights Frogs Protestor

The ongoing political climate in the United States, marked by intense protests against President Donald Trump's immigration policies, has recently taken a surreal turn. A new and visually striking element has emerged from the demonstrations: protesters are now appearing en masse wearing elaborate frog costumes, adopting the collective name, the "Portland Frog Brigade."

These demonstrations are concentrated in cities across the US, most notably Portland, Oregon, where activists are gathering outside the offices of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The confrontations between the protesters and security forces have, at times, turned volatile, with law enforcement resorting to pepper spray to disperse the crowds.

In one particularly bizarre incident that has since captured media attention, a man dressed in a full frog costume became a casualty of the escalating tensions. This individual was reportedly dancing provocatively in front of police lines when he was sprayed directly with pepper spray. The chemical agent found its way into the costume's ventilation port, highlighting the strange blend of theatrical activism and real-world conflict defining the rallies.

The paper reported the number of “frogs” multiplied following this incident, and it has since credited Todd with having started the frog movement.

“I’m here protesting the inhuman way that ICE and [The Department of Homeland Security] are treating our immigrants,” Todd told the paper.

“Whether they are here legally or not, they should be treated as a human being, because that’s what they are.”

This isolated incident quickly morphed into a significant protest trend. Now, dozens of individuals, clad in green, amphibious attire, are making their presence felt at anti-Trump rallies nationwide. The movement has solidified its identity, taking on the moniker, the "Portland Frog Brigade," which serves as a symbol of playful defiance against the administration's hardline stance.

The sight of these "greens" on the frontline of the protests is reportedly creating a dilemma for law enforcement. The costumed activists engage with the police and other security personnel, "pushing back" and challenging the authorities in a manner that is both disruptive and utterly non-traditional. The police officers are visibly confused and "do not understand what to do with them," as the presence of costumed individuals complicates standard crowd control measures.

President Trump had previously escalated the rhetoric surrounding the protests, broadly characterizing them as an "invasion." He declared his firm intent to defend the country not only from undocumented immigrants but also from what he termed "radical leftists." To enforce this promise and maintain order, the administration announced plans to deploy the National Guard to major US metropolitan centers, including Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Portland, and Chicago.
